Coming To Mafia Wars : Family / Clan Module

Mafia Wars Families & Clans have been asking for a long time to be able to register their Tags in the game so other families couldn’t lay claim to them & have their families integrated into the game. Well that day is coming soon for family & clan leaders.
Remember this is still in BETA TESTING and is not available to everyone. The families that do have this feature available are working through it and are giving their feedback to PAC & Zynga to get the new feature right before it is rolled out to everyone. Just so you know there are alot of bugs & kinks that everyone is working on getting resolved.
To see if you have this feature the first thing you will want to do is go to My Mafia & then the last tab will say families.
If you see this, you can click this and it will take you to a new screen where you will be given the option to either join an existing family or start your own. If you want to join an existing family then you can scroll down and find the one you want to join and click the join button. But before you do they have added a feature so you can check the stats of that family to see if they are active and some of there fighting stats. If this is the one you want to join then you can send a request to join and if they want you in their family then they will approve you. The godfather of that family will get the request in the Zynga Message Center ( where you collect gifts ) and can approve or ignore your request.

If you want to register your family in the system then just click start your own family button and a new screen will open up and it guide you through setting up your family within the game. As you can see you can type your family name in, you can make your Family Tag and yes it does take characters & symbols and you can add a family description (as this test screen shows) . You may of also noticed that this is not a FREE feature it does cost reward points to register your family but the exact cost has not be determined yet ( YES I agree it should be FREE !!! )
Now once that is done you will brought to a new screen that is your Family screen and it will show the family fighting stats above and the members it will also give you an option to invite your current family member to the game group. This will be the screen all members see when they go to it and as you can see it will display your families fight totals. There will also be a future feature that gives family badges based on reaching various fighting goals. You can also display a message to your family that you want them to see. They have even made it easier for you to share your link by adding link by just clicking the copy button and then paste it where you need to. ( it is also available for regular players without the family feature ).
You can also see that once a person joins the family module they can change their current tag to the new one for free. You dont have to add the family tag as it is already going to be there. BUT this is very important you CAN NOT multi tag with the new system (YET, we are working on that one however you can add them as part of you name ) and you cannot at this time be part of multiple families. ( we are working on that one too with Zynga ).
You also have control of whether or not you want to have random people try to join your family. If you click on the settings button you will see where you can actively recruit or not allow new members to join and you can also change your welcome message. If you look below you will also see a link so you can share the group link to get players to join your group as well. So you can just copy and paste that link to share with specific people you want to join your family.
Please remember this is still new there are lots of issues that is why a limited number of family leaders have been invited. The issues are being worked on diligently and like I said PAC and the family leaders are providing them a ton of feedback on this so they get it right before it rolls out to the world.
Lets start with some issues that are going to be worked on so far that we have found.
- No Multiple Registered Tags or joining of multiple families. ( This is being addressed now with Zynga )
- Issues joining families ( This is also being addressed)
- Your Tag is limited to 6 characters total, special characters count as 2 ( We are trying to get this expanded)
- Admins are limited along with titles for them ( This is also being addressed )
- Number of family members in group is limited 100 -150 right now ( We are trying to get this expanded )
- It registers your tag directly in the game so no one else can come along and try to start another family using your exact tag in the game as your registered tag will now be in Red and blocked from others using it in the game. If they tag outside the game it will be in white and you know it will be fake or a rouge player.
- You now have control of player in your family who carries your tag. So if they are not active you can remove them and the tag drops off their name. This is also true when you boot a disruptive player or if a player decides to go someplace else.
- Players who join your family do not have to spend reward points to tag as they are given a name change for free. It only costs reward points to establish a registered family and the godfather or godmother pay that fee. The tag will already be in the front and then they only have to type their name in.
- You will now be able to access some of your players stats right from the family page instead of having to go to their profile to check them. You wont see there skills or weapons strength but you can see most of the profile numbers.

Mafia Wars needs to fix the issue with the RED tags, people can simply click it and attack players they would normally not be able to attack without a link/post of asking family to attack! Please think about this issue and get us all some form of relief… Especially the lower level players… Whom have no chance against players that are 4K+ level and they are still ‘fishbowl’ levels under 451… Fix this, LMAO
Here’s the biggest problem of all of the problems… running help groups and teaching the game… Clicking on a RED tag in the game takes you str8 to the group in question… Now there are levels that should never be able to attack fish bowl players… Yet this simple option let’s high level players like 3K+ attack a level 100 where’s the fun in that for the level 100, not to mention, they repeat hit them to get these freebies during events… Zynga you F’ed up again.. What you need is Don Payback on your team cause he knows everything about your game and has even predicted many of the game changes alerts us so we are usually not always but almost always a step ahead of you, but please think before you create the next big so called evolution in your game… Meow The Kitten Club!!!
I keep trying to jopin a family. I get an invite to the family and then I get a message that the family is full. what does that mean?
I have the same problem , i get invited to join a family which i would like to do however everytime i accept it says that the family is full…whats up with that…
Same here. I’ve even to join families with only 1 member – still the family is full. So I don’t know wtf’s going on
same here cannot join a family cause its already full. how many members can a family have? Why can’t we get in touch with family members to join each others mafia?
I am told “Family member already exists in this family” anytime I try to join any family… Suggestions???
Well, so far it seems to be working fine for our clan (SDA), tho it is too early to tell for sure. We were fortunate that our GM was able to register our tag. However, the initial Gm or GF can promote another member to that position, so as long as one of your clan members has access to the beta test, that person can register the tag, then invite the “real” GM/GF of the clan and then promote them to their proper position. Easy peasy, as long as someone in your clan gets the tag in the first place.
Second, leaving a group is also easy. On your family page, there will be a red X to the left of your name – click on it to leave the family.
I don’t think the 50 reward points to register a family is outrageous at all, especially considering that players joining a clan now won’t have to pay to add the tag (nor to remove it if they leave). And I would assume that if all the members of a family leave the group, then the family/clan would be automatically dissolved, and I would hope that the tag would then be available should a new group form and want to use it.
I’m really looking forward to the real time Family chat – any idea when that will be rolled out?
The one thing I have found that could be improved is that right now only the GM/GF is able to receive and approve requests to join. As several have pointed out, running a clan is a lot of work, and many clans seem to share those duties. So the GM/GF may be the official leader, but may not be the person in charge of membership. After all, you wouldn’t expect the CEO of a corporation to have to personally approve the hiring of every new employee – that’s what human resource managers are for! Ideally, just as the GF/GM can promote family members (soldier) to admin (underboss) positions, they should also be able to designate if and which other members receive and can approve any requests to join. I hope someone involved in the discussions with Zynga can and will make this suggestion. Thanks.
How can I get OUT of a clan I joined out of mistake ? I just cannot find the option. What should I do , ask the clan cleader to kick me out ?

I am the GF of {TME} “United” respecting everyone opinion here what I see going on is just another way for Zynga to make money off us. They have opened up yet another way to expose our clans large and small to attackers, thieves and looters, and in the process charging us rp’s. With one click of a tag by a CC player/paid hit man or woman can gain access to YOUR whole clan and allow this person or persons to sit on your people for who knows how long all because someone cannot handle business for themselves. The history of Zynga to date has been when one problem is solved, if it truly is, many, more are created, in reality you are left to deal with the “fantastic” ideas left behind and Zynga walks away leaving you with no recourse…. Zynga moves on to find another way to charge you yet more Rp’s … This would be different if the bugs were worked out, there were some benefit to joining this “module” such as the family has first access to cities, better rewards, pays less on rp’s better weapons, something that makes the effort worthwhile. All I see in our future is us spending more to avoid the upcoming grief pledged upon us by another of Zynga’s brilliant ideas…. Could this also be another way for Zynga to monitor our game play???

Have Zynga thought this one thru on Clan and group security? it dont seem like it as you can click on a red tag and see all in that group, this will be a godsend to Bully clans and cruiser’s who will no longer need to use the like’s of (switch) bookmarklets, most if not all clans have Closed group page’s and limited access to recruitment yet now I AN CLICK ON ANY RED TAG see all in that group carrying the tag, click on the individual and go straight to the profile to attack, then again maybe this is exactly what Zynga had in mind, more wars means more CC sales for them

Glad I did not wake up this morning to a new tag…Also I guess no one will steal ours since we have more than 6 characters…what a mess! Zynga does not need to start regulating in any way clan business. Only way this would appeal to me is if they gave some worthwhile incentives for joining…less healing time, extra fighting boosts, less cost for stam refills…. Think I’ll go fight some red tags and see what happens…lol.

Ok, so how do we regain our tag? Someone jumped on the Tag before we could. We have been a clan for more than 3 years. We are Known to many clans and to Zynga. We need help please, soon.
I agree. The tagged family’s are very complex hierarchic social groups, that if they all wanted to be alike they would belong to the same family. They don’t. Many family’s have long since abandoned the restrictions of the god father or mother. Many stable clans rely on Councils of experienced players etc, and every family does things their own way. They just rolled this out and allowed the first to sign up to get the name…. and title of godfather or godmother, completely disrespecting the long earned social status of players who have played the game for years and spent tons money. This is not well thought out and could be yet another factor driving players who have been long loyal to sigh and give up the game. Zynga would do well to listen to their customer as they might learn something. It’s as if they intended to offend their best customers.
Isn’t the PAC actually just a bunch of looters who staged what they called a mafia wars shut down? lol “players association committee” gimme a break…. looting association committee {LAC} would be a better name (no offense if LAC is actually a clan name) Why? because they want to sell you loots. These aren’t actual players that got lucky and found a buch of loots they are a group of players who skirt fb and zynga’s TOS by scripting hundreds and hundreds of interconnected accounts so they can sell you loots or offer you rather call it loot gathering services. lol Here we have Zynga actively working with this set of TOS breakers, you would think zynga would at least fake no association with these players they know subvert the intent of the game.
You don’t have the average player or especially the tagged community best interest in mind. Don’t be fooled and sign up for this it is a scam, why would zynga work with PAC –>money they all want to charge you more money lol as an aside Zynga gets ownership and control over you hard fought for clan names, because this process also takes from the individual clan its identity and makes it the property of zynga BEWARE kudos to their ingenuity but to the real players BEWARE.

What I want to know is how do you know it is a Godmother or Godfather registering the group? Many families been together years and this looks like any Joe can just decide to take a current tag or family and as long as he or she registers it first it is theirs? I don’t like it one bit there will be many, many families that will quit when their tag gets stolen.

i remember last year on snouts kicking this idea around with folk’s like john sweeney and chainsaw chester and many other’s .then i thought we were just shooting the breeze with some utopian idea’s about the future of mafia wars. to actually see the clan’s that have done so much to make and shape our game ,get this great mark of recognition and legitimacy really make’s me glow.
this is going to be a new golden age for mafia war’s the clans and zynga, all sorts of new possibilities for combat will open up . its going to be a boon for godfathers and clan admins . it mean’s an end to tag war’s those bitter pointless game destroying conflicts that have all ways haunted the game. that in itself make’s this system worthwile.
as for the cost aspect well i think if its reasonable then its fair enought . a zynga are a buisness and they shouldnt be stiffed of their cut. also i know how much clan folk can spend in a weekend just on stamina so were all good for it lol . equally with over a thousand clans allready in the game closer to two thousand ,we dont need every one starting their own tiny five person clans that wont be able to give the real clans a battle we dont want a clan list full of timewaster’s
all in all i think this is a great boost for us all.

i can quite understand the worries about people carpet bagging your tags . and ellens indignation at being press ganged into dvr . but these are early days and the hiccups will get sorted .
i wouldnt see this as losing a daughter but gaining a son as they say .

To me, this is at totally wrong level. This ‘Clan’ functionality from the big ‘Z’ is at the player level and that player creating a ‘Clan’ within MW structure from their own Mafia Members and not at the ‘Clan’ level with players Joining the ‘Clan’ outside the MW structure.
Seems this view needs to be re-analyzed.
I agree Kb not only that it takes the family out of family. I find someone poaching my tag its war . I went to the trouble to register with MW wiki and withing FB so there would be no mistakes. Not only that we are a tag optional clan. I am not going to subject my people to have to spend there Reward points to tag within this system . This is another way for zynga to make more money from us.
This is crap and wont work…,Im the GF of { AUST }™ and my tag will not be changed and wont be stolen by some wannabe tossa who jumps in b4 me..if they want to change anything have all tags registered..
I have moved up the rank in my clan, altering my name 3 times since induction which cost me each time (naturally); So why charge our GF’s & GM’s a fee for our tags unless you are willing to reimburse the existing clan members their RP’s. Especially since new prospects have nothing to pay to join the clans.
Truly, it is the principal and not the RP….

While I am not sure this is going to be the answer to that many problems – it has a few nice things, but it also screws with alot as well.. – the problem is, as LCN Patrick noted – what if someone grabs a tag before a long established clan is able to get it…for that reason, I am, of course, going to try and get my clan in on this even though I am not yet convinced it’s a great thing. For one thing, how many clans have we all seen pop up and then disappear – I can’t even keep track of the number of clans that are around for a few weeks or months and just die because the creators had NO idea how much work is actually involved in a true clan? Even some great clans (LAW comes to mind) dissolve in time…so how will this be handled? There is ALOT more here than meets the eyes…As for other comments – Z putting the name as an official affiliation isn’t going to change the social aspect for me – my clan will do what it needs and wants to do using the tools we feel good using…
I already have a family – my own. These tags I find so juvenile ha ha ha I’m strong enough not to need the “hive” mind

The Clan thing in Mafia Wars is something I can’t possibly trust to facebook and zynga. Every time they try to deal with clan issues, they make it worse. And that is only the little things. NOW you want to mess with the whole tagging process??? NOW you want to mess with the Godfather & Clan Admins???? NOW you want to charge a clan to tag or even come up with a tag????? Why would you want to do any of these????? Oh yeah “MySpace” has several clans who want to take over a handful of “Facebook” tags. So you So you beat the hell out of the mother and baby, just to save the afterbirth????? Makes no damn sense to me!

I think the implementation of this new “feature” is just crazy !!! On FB we have places to go to register our tags, we also have sites off FB to register family tags….for free!!! This is just one more thing (since the new fight page…which sucks) that players have to deal with just to play this game….you know, if ya keep changing stuff you might loose players!!! Also, I see a lot of reference to GFs, well I am the creator and GM of my clan, so it might be nice to recognize us also!!

This is a bit ridiculous… they don’t have any idea of how much things a clan has to take care of…
Members, communications (which are already done from FB with no problem at all), wars, the simple fact of really becoming a family and not just a “Programmed Game Group”, etc.
I don’t understand if people really wants a clan feature in the game… wth? clans exists since a long t¡me and have/had their situations, fun and families are symbolic values, why in hell would you want it to be programmed and not have the freedom that FB provides already, having to wait for some lazy people to program the things you need or want, it’s crazy. Clans will never be functional this way, everyone has it’s requirements, needs and way to handle things.
I haven’t seen anybody in MW complaining or requesting a clan feature, everybody knows this just adds slowness, errors, bugs & meaningless stuff to the game.
Assuming anything of this is at least “Aceptable” (which is not), it wouldn’t be a simple feature, they would have to spend a lot of time and resources/feedbacks to give NOTHING to users in this game, why not to take care of the actual problems and bugs instead of adding changes and more crap, we aren’t even asking for?

A few questions:
How many clans were included in the test? Were they all fighting clans, or were other types of MW clans included?
Did the included clans receive their group page for free, since a price hasn’t been set for creating your clan tag?
Are the brackets included in the count of 6 characters?
Is there a way to transfer ownership of the group from one GF to another? (even if it’s for a small RP fee?)
I for one, am VERY mad about this. I woke this morning to a new tag along with the one I already have. I had no forewarning and had no idea whatsoever was going on. After spending an hour on chat with Customer Support and them trying to remove the tag, we gave up. I find it VERY disturbing that Zynga didn’t bother to tell Customer Support what was going on OR even tell the players in beta testing about it BEFOREHAND.
I for one have no desire to be in this mess. And a BIG MESS is what this is and will it become even worse if it continues. This game is totally messed up already with way too many glitches for Zynga to be taking on anything of this magnitude. Zynga CANNOT handle the volume of clans out there. What in the world would make you think you can?
I am a platinum player who WILL quit this game if this is implemented. The new fighting is horrendous enough but this is totally RIDICULOUS.

Is there a possibility to change the godfather after the clan’s creation?
I understand your need (Zynga’s) to produce revenue. But to change the existing way clans are organized is a very bad idea. A clan is a way a player gets help getting stronger by getting better equipment from other clan members. It is also a way for players to socialize with others in mock wars and drive bys. To change this i feel will be very detrimental to the game, all you will accomplish is to chase away players from this game and those that leave i would not be surprised if the stop playing your other games. I feel that there are enough credit card / gift card players for you not to justify another way to produce revenue.
I would also like disapprove of the recent change in how loot is gained in fighting. Once a player has completed all the available cities, most concentrate on fighting to continue to gain high end loot to improve their stats.
This sucks, am tagged [LCN] but as of now, none of us has access to this Beta Phase, what if some idiot wannabe was given access ahead of us true [LCN]’s and registered the tag ahead of us, then we become fakes? LMAO, what a stupid idea…..

Yes I agree this idea sucks it going to make more problems then solving any by have all the clan names and tags in one place. This cannot go thou it will mess up the game and the clans that have been around for years. I will repeat it THIS CANNOT GO THOU IT WILL CAUSE TO MANY PROBLEMS.

What if your tag has more than the “allowed” characters at this time. Symbol use is rampant and some tags are over 16 characters because of the symbols. Established clans should also have some kind of security so no one can “register” the tags who isn’t a member or who isn’t a Godfather. It seems this new promotion may cause more problems then it is worth. some features such as if you boot a member it automatically takes their tag away is good. But as a whole, this promotion does present it’s problems. And if a clan name were “stolen” is there a way to regain said “tag” from that person. that should be addressed FOR SURE before you role this thing out.
OK I honestly like the Idea but how do you leave a group? That is not addressed anywhere that I have seen. I was fighting the next think I saw was a clan tag of a group that I never heard of in front of my name.
Well it has happened to “us”. Our tag was registered by someone we have never heard of. Awaiting a reply from Zynga……
